Obituary for Ronald K. Chelsvig

Ronald Keith Chelsvig was born April 26, 1938 to Porter and Lavina (Ryg) Chelsvig in Ames, Iowa. He graduated from Huxley High School in 1956 and farmed his entire life. Ronald served as a cook in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church and proud of his Norwegian heritage. Ronald enjoyed reading - especially about local history, his Border Collie dogs, and loved to laugh and be around people.

Ronald passed away at 79 years of age on May 24, 2017 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Ronald is survived by his brother, Clyde Chelsvig of Boone; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Orvis Chelsvig and Robert Chelsvig; his sister, Stella Ryan; his sister-in-law, Margene Chelsvig; his brother-in-law, Ed Ryan; his nephew, Daniel Ryan; and a great-niece, Nicole Peterson.

Ronald's family would like to thank the staff at Ballard Creek Community for their loving care and the residents for the friendship.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Bethany Lutheran Church or the Madrid Home (Ballard Creek) ACTS Fund.

Soderstrum Funeral Home in Slater is assisting the family with arrangements.
