Obituary for Leslie Amlund Mathre

Leslie Amlund Mathre was born on November 8, 1922 in rural Story City to Lewis J. and Sophie (Amlund) Mathre. Les began his education at the Mathre Country School, and was a graduate of Story City High School. He was married to Beverly Noah of Rudd in 1951. To that union was born Cheryl, Diane and Larry. He married Doris Engstrom Krumm on August 16, 1973 and she brought to the marriage her three children, Jennifer, Denny and Karol.

He had many stories that he could share. Les was involved in trucking his entire life and he owned and operated Les Mathre Truck Line for 50 years. He was past commander of American Legion Post 59 in Story City and a member of the 40/8. In his younger days he enjoyed roller skating, and he loved to dance and listen to country music his entire life. He was an avid fisherman and spent his free time in Mille Lacs, Minnesota and the Branson, Missouri area.
Les passed away September 12, 2018 at Accura Healthcare of Ames at the age of 95.
Les is survived by his wife, Doris of Story City; two daughters, Cheryl (Ron) Hoffman and Diane (Kim) Larson; a son, Larry (Glenda) Mathre; two step daughters, Jennifer (Andy) Friedmeyer of Ankeny and Karol (Vince Jasper) Krumm of Boone; a step daughter-in-law, Pam Krumm of rural Boone; his grandchildren, Stacey, Laura, Jill, Shelby, Layton, Heath; his step- grandchildren, Abby, Lindsay, Jeff, Toby and Tracy and his great grandchildren Zac, Noah, Emily, Katelyn, Anne, Maggie, Charlie, Abbie, Nora, Harper, Xavier, Kelbe, Ava and Ashton.
